Want to get involved in Gray Ratsnake monitoring? The Adopt-a-Snake program is a great way to do so. As part of the park’s Gray Ratsnake conservation effort, proceeds from adoptions go towards the purchasing of supplies to microchip and process the snakes that we capture in the park. The microchips allow us to monitor their population, as well as the growth, survival, and movement of individual snakes. We hope that through this program we can learn more about their behaviour to better protect their environment.
For $40, you can ‘adopt’ a microchipped snake. Adoptees will receive updates on their snake’s growth and activity through email whenever their snake is recaptured. We also provide yearly updates on the Gray Ratsnake population and Adopt-a-Snake program.
If you are interested in adopting one of the available snakes below, send an email to us at friendsofmurphyspointpark@yahoo.ca with the subject “Adopt-a-Snake” and we will process the adoption. Be sure to include the pit tag number of the snake you are interested in in the email.
NOTE: Check back for regular updates on new snakes and recent adoptions!
