Colourful Findings at Murphys Point

Have a look at the colourful species our Friends Students found around the park during their Rainbow Walk! We encourage you to spend some time exploring the outdoors and to find at least one species of plant, wildlife, or fungi for each colour of the rainbow! This is a great way to practice mindfulness and appreciate nature’s extensive colour palette. 🌈☀️🌲

Keeping our Roads Clean!

On Monday, Friends volunteers helped to clean up the stretch of County Road 21 that runs through the park, as part of Lanark County’s Adopt-a-Road program. Volunteers spent the morning picking up trash and recyclables, ensuring that our beloved environment can stay natural and beautiful. Thanks to our hardworking and motivated team, we were able to tidy BOTH sides of the road, and as a result, we have canceled our secondary cleanup scheduled for June 19.

We would like to sincerely thank all the volunteers who came out on Monday for dedicating their time and energy to guaranteeing that our neighbourhood stays clean and litter-free. Stay tuned for information on our fall cleanups!

Friends of Murphys Point Students of 2024!

Here’s to the Friends of Murphys Point Summer Students of 2024!

From finding and monitoring gray ratsnakes for our Adopt-A-Snake program to covering the nests of turtle species in the park, our Friends Students have been busy preparing for the summer ahead!

Get to know our Friends Students!

Whitney:

Hello, everyone! If I look familiar, it’s because I’m back for my second summer as a Friends Student here at Murphys Point. I have completed an Outdoor Adventure Naturalist program at Algonquin College and will be continuing studies this fall in the Environmental Technician program. I’m looking forward to finding lots of gray ratsnakes for our Adopt-a-Snake program this season!

Bethany:

Hello! It’s my first year working at a provincial park, and I’m thrilled to have joined such an amazing team! I’m entering my fifth year at Queen’s University studying psychology. I’ve always loved visiting provincial parks, and I am really excited to spend my summer outside learning all about the many different plant and wildlife species here at Murphys Point.

Be sure to say hello if you see us in the park!
