Join the Friends at their AGM on Earth Day

What do Earth Day, a chili cook-off and a business meeting have in common? The Friends of Murphys Point Park Annual General Meeting – that’s what!

Tim Wood

Join the Friends on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22, at McMartin House (125 Gore St. E. in Perth) starting at 4:30 p.m. for an event featuring special guest speaker Tim Wood, Species at Risk coordinator for the Leeds-Grenville Stewardship Council, who will bring his presentation titled “Common Ground – Sharing the Earth with Species at Risk.”

“We thought Earth Day would be a fitting occasion to bring old Friends and new Friends together to talk about some of the great projects we do and to hear about some interesting programs being offered in the area,” said Beth Peterkin, Friends event coordinator. (more)

Volunteer Opportunities are Fun and Rewarding!

The Friends of Murphys Point Park depends on volunteers to carry out our many natural history and cultural programs as well as assist in developing new outreach and educational activities. Becoming involved as a volunteer is a great way to meet new people with similar interests as well as contribute to the success of the Friends.

Some of the opportunities include helping with the programs for children and youth,  planning special events, community outreach and displays, fundraising, helping with BBQs and pancake breakfasts at the park,  and communications. We are also looking for skills in social media and communications. In addition, there are sometimes vacancies to be filled on our Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting each April.

If you are interested in any of these or other volunteer opportunities, please review our Volunteer Policies and Procedures and complete and return a Volunteer Registration Form.   If you have any specific questions, please contact us  at friendsofmurphyspointpark@yahoo.ca. High school students can earn community service hours by volunteering with the Friends.
