Friends Hosting Drum-Making Series!

Please join the Friends of Murphys Point Park for a Drum-Making Series!

The three-part series kicks off with Helena Neveu (Walksfar Woman… Waasaabiidaasome Kwe – Batchewana First Nation of Ojibways) presenting a FREE virtual session (with two opportunities to join) that includes storytelling and a demonstration of how to make the rawhide and hoops for the drums. See Helena’s bio below.

The virtual workshops will be presented live and will feature video and PowerPoint through Zoom (which may require broadband Internet capacity) and will be approximately an hour to an hour and a half in length.

The second part of the series is an in-person, outdoor all-day drum-making workshop, tentatively scheduled for May 15 in the Perth area. The cost for the in-person workshop is $100 per person and materials are included. Remaining materials will be used for rattle and jewellery making.

The series culminates with a “drum birthing ceremony” on a date to be announced.

Following the virtual session, the Friends will forward registration information to anyone interested in signing up for the in-person Drum-Making Workshop.

Details about the in-person workshop and the birthing ceremony will be provided as health and safety precautions must be taken into consideration.
