Again this year, Murphys Point is excited and honoured to have Chuck Commanda return to the park to conduct a new birchbark canoe build. He’ll be at the picnic shelter at the main beach daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through to July 19, when there will be a traditional closing ceremony and launch. Stay tuned for details!
This year’s canoe will be raffled by the Friends of Murphys Point Park in order to help fund future Indigenous programming. Tickets are $20 and will be on sale every day during the build at the beach. You can also find them at the Park Store and at various events throughout the summer until the draw on Oct. 14.
Can’t make it to the Park Store? Contact Courtney at the Park at 613-267-5060 ext. 222 from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for information on how you can buy a ticket.
Watch the daily progress of the canoe build on the Murphys Point Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/OPmurphyspoint/
We hope you can experience this fantastic learning opportunity, and that you will support future programming through the raffle.
